Long time no post!
I think I am coming to the realization that until I get a job where I can dress up/look nice every day...being a fashion blogger is going to be kind of impossible. Because all of my jobs are food service-this means I never wear my favorite shirts and definitely never wear white...let alone dresses, skirts, or heels. So the outfit posts will be few and far between, mostly just days off, but I promise to step them up. I hate that these photos were taken at almost dark, but I just never seem to have time while it's light out! Hopefully I can start posting about crafts/recipes/workouts/my cat to fill up some of the empty days.  This outfit is from Sunday when I went out for a late birthday dinner with my parents and boyfriend.
For years before I started this blog, I constantly dreamed of what I would post if I had one. Asking my sister "Is this blog-worthy?" became an inside joke between us whenever I thought my outfit was cute. This outfit I am posting today totally represents my idea of what fashion bloggers wear. This striped shirt/statement necklace/skinny jeans combo is so in right now I literally felt out of the loop before I bought it!

Which brings me to my main topic today: trends. I almost always hate clothing trends when they first start: lace, neons, nudes, pastels, statement necklaces, Toms, cross-body purses, etc. I'm not sure why, but I've always been like this. Luckily- most things grow on me and I start to see the potential, then quickly become obsessed with making the trend my own. It's this obsession that scares me. Sometimes, I think I focus so much on getting the latest trendy piece that I don't take the time to figure out if I really want it, or if it even fits with my personal style. Although blogs and Pinterest have helped me grow and see what my style truly is, it's still hard not to covet things that show up on every site- even if the piece doesn't fit with my wardrobe. Now that I have my own blog I am thinking about what "my style" really is and it is getting easier to see which impulse buys to say NO to. This is definitely going to be a lifelong battle for a major fashion/shopping addict like myself but I am getting better.

I also tried out some lip color recently! I love how lipstick looks on other people but I know it's not realistic for me right now...too intense! So I started with Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain. I read on another blog that it was a good place to start before going for full on lipstick- a lot like lip balm. I am happy with the product and I didn't end up with any color smeared on my face or teeth- yayy! It does stain your lips so even when you eat or lick your lips, the color stays well. I think the color looks right with my skin and lip color, but I might go buy a more light pink one in case I don't want quite the drastic look this red one gives me.

I actually wish I wore flats with this outfit, I am so sick of looking at boots...winter is taking too long here in upstate New York!
Dustin gave me these flowers for my birthday and they still look and smell so good!

I actually have FOUR days off this week because some relatives are visiting for Easter, so that means lots of cute outfit posts to come! Wahoooooo.

birthday bitch

jeans: Old Navy

Another busy week! At least I had one day off though...my birthday! I turned 24...ugh. One year left before my quarter-life crisis.

I'm gonna get real here...I always get sad on my birthday! Am I a spoiled brat or what? I think it's because I always build the day up in my mind into such an epic, unrealistic moment. And I often find myself missing people that I'm not with or can't be with. My birthday is always on spring break so it's been kind of a hard time to get together with everyone I want to see. This year my sister went to Miami over break and I really missed her! But she is a senior in college so she deserves to have a fun, crazy time.

I did a lot this past year, but I'm not happy with where I am in my career. I think that is causing me a lot of unconscious (and conscious) anxiety. Looking ahead, that is the one thing I want to focus on while I'm 24. Maybe I just need the number 25 looming in the distance to get me going...I have always worked better under pressure, with a deadline.

Anyway! After I was done feeling sorry for myself (being a birthday bitch,) I had a great day. Dustin woke up and went and brought back breakfast sandwiches, coffee, flowers and a card...! Honestly I would have been thrilled with the day if that's all I did. That is my definition of happiness right there. But then we did my other favorite thing in life... went SHOPPING.

Dustin volunteered to go to the Syracuse mall with me all day! That is a miracle. The mall (now called Destiny USA,) has recently undergone renovations to become one of the biggest in the country and it was overwhelming how awesome it was. Our mall in Ithaca is literally PATHETIC and shouldn't even be called a mall so I was like a kid in a candy store yesterday. We were planning on coming home and getting ready (and putting on contacts and makeup) and going out to dinner...but we ended up being there all day, oops. I got a bunch of stuff from Gap and H&M, and some necklaces from a boutique. I didn't even make it into half the stores I wanted to, but I decided that I should probably visit the TWO-STORY Forever 21 store by myself, on another weekend. And Dustin's mom bought me a COACH bag! Okay, I am officially spoiled. I was really surprised that she got me such a special gift, and am really excited to wear it out!

It's so beautiful and trendy and I feel awesome wearing it!

Here's a few Instagrams from recently:

1. My one and only "selfie pic." I liked my hair and makeup that day!
2. I went out to dinner with an old friend Robin that I hardly ever see and we ended up eating/drinking/talking ALL night!
3. Deposited SIX paychecks at once. Saving my checks is my new way to not spend money!
4. When my friend Kasey visited from Boston I went out with her, my sister and one of my best friends Greg.
5. The view from my bed: Myrtle and Dustin. :)
6. We FINALLY got couches. We've been living here since June.
7. Me and my Coach purse!!
8. Couches are for napping.

Happy birthday to me!

global warming winter

Another busy week gone by. I have been working A LOT lately because I have a few trips planned in the coming months so I'm trying to save up. One of my best friends Kasey visited this week from Boston so I got to hang out with her a bit, but mostly worked and worked. So I'm cheating in this post and using pictures from a year ago, March 2012. I got REALLY behind in uploading photos onto Facebook but finally just put these up yesterday. It was an unusually warm day and Dustin and I went to a gorge near downtown. We grabbed coffee on one of the busiest streets in Ithaca and then walked two streets over to a peaceful waterfall...this is why I love our city.

Since it was still winter, the path was gated off. In the summer you can walk up past the falls from downtown and end up by Cornell University. After these few nice couple of days it ended up getting cold again so I was so glad we got out and took some photos.

After we checked out the water we walked through a couple of cute streets and just looked at the views and the setting sun. I also snapped a pic of the cute little mouse graffiti and the piano art on the side of a music center. There is a lot of random street art in Ithaca and I love to document it!

mr. domestic

Mmm, stirfry! One night last week we had time to make a nice dinner...and somehow I got Dustin to make it! Haha, he is a good cook when he tries. The first few times I made the dish and showed him how I did it, and now he makes it better than me! Probably because I always overcook the chicken due to the worry of it being raw in the middle...its a big fear of mine! The veggies came in a package already cut up so we really didn't do that much...but hey!

Dustin is the master flipper. I always feel like the pan is too heavy to get much flipping action going on!  First we cut up the chicken into small strips and seasoned and cooked that. Then we took the chicken off and cooked some scrambled eggs. Then we took them off and cooked the veggies. The key to all of it is to cook on low heat so it goes slow. I am impatient and always put it way too hot and ruin it. And don't forget to season everything! When the veggies start to look done we add the chicken and eggs back on, and also add some "stir-fry sauce."

It was delicious! We were supposed to have rice but I somehow managed to mess that up... and I thought I was the domestic one?

I thought I would finally introduce you to our other family member, Myrtle the cat. There will be many more photos to come of this little girl. We adopted her from the shelter a few months ago and I am pretty much obsessed! I have wanted a cat my whole life so she makes me very happy :) She came to the shelter from a hoarding situation (the house had around 50 cats) so she is a very skittish cat, scared of every noise...but she's getting better. She enjoys laser pointers and sleeping in small, dark places. Meeeooow!
